Panoramio Groups: Join a photo community to match your interests

(Cross-posted from the Lat Long Blog)

I'm from Barcelona, and once a year I go to Costa Brava on the Mediterranean with my friends to enjoy good food and nice weather. I always carry my camera with me to capture the beach when the light is just right, take photos of my favorite meals or document my latest hike. When I get home, I upload my photos to Panoramio and position them on the map. Pictures uploaded to Panoramio can be featured in the “Photos” layer of Google Earth and Google Maps, which means that I can share my travel experiences with others and, in return, explore places around the world through the eyes of other photographers.

Starting today, you can share your passions through photographs more collaboratively with Panoramio Groups. This new feature lets you create a sub-community within Panoramio around a topic you’re passionate about, so you can easily engage with like-minded photographers and hobbyists.

Panoramio is an online community of people that share and explore photos of the world.

For example, in my trips around the world, I always take the time to enjoy the local cuisine, like Costa Brava’s arrĂ²s negre. So I created a group called “Food,” to give others a "taste" of that region and get a glimpse of what fellow foodies are feasting on. My fellow group members—and by all means I hope you’ll become one of them!—can add their own photos, browse others' and get culinary and travel inspiration.

Panoramio Groups allow members to share photos and start discussions on a given topic.

To share your own interests and passions through photos, hop over to Panoramio and create your own group or join an existing one from the Groups Directory. You can show off your photos of your favorite restaurant, the most beautiful sunset you’ve seen, the latest lighthouse you’ve visited, or the cutest dog from each continent. Whatever it is, try starting a discussion about your favorite topics and share what matters to you with others.

Visit www.panoramio.com/groups to get started. We hope you enjoy this new addition to Panoramio—let us know what you think in the Panoramio Forum!

Irrigation Guidelines for Hurricanes, Tropical Storms, and Flood Watches

All farms covered under a permit in North Carolina need to be aware of the regulations you are expected to abide by as a tropical weather system approaches.  Your permit states in Section II.22:

"Land application of waste shall cease within four (4) hours of the time that the National Weather Service issues a Hurricane Warning, Tropical Storm Warning, or a Flood Watch associated with a tropical system including a hurricane, tropical storm, or tropical depression for the county in which the permitted facility is located.  Watches and warnings are posted on the National Weather Service's website located at: www.weather.gov"

You can also call the National Weather Service office that serves our area.  For Lenoir and Greene Counties, it is the office in Newport/Morehead City.  The phone number is 252-223-5737.

Eastern Equine Encephalomyelitis Found in Eastern North Carolina

North Carolina’s Office of the State Veterinarian and the Center for Disease Control were notified August 18th that one horse in eastern North Carolina had tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalomyelitis (EEE).  Eastern Equine Encephalomyelitis is a viral disease that affects the central nervous system of all members of the equine species.  EEE is classified as a zoonotic disease, meaning humans may also contract the disease.  Healthy adults who contract EEE may show flu-like symptoms including high fever and headaches, while older adults and children may become severely ill.  Death may result in cases involving both equine and humans.  The equine mortality rate due to EEE ranges from 75 to 90 percent.

Equine infected with EEE may show signs that include fever, depression, loss of appetite, irritability, weakness, excitability,  central nervous system disorders (ie. circling, lack of coordination, head pressing, the tell-tale “saw horse” stance, sensitivity to light, and blindness).  In rare instances, horses have been known to show no signs of the disease prior to death.

Eastern Equine Encephalomyelitis is spread when a mosquito feeds on an infected horse, then moves on to a healthy horse.  Dr. Ray, Director of Livestock Health Programs for the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services Veterinary Division noted that in many years we would have had one or more cases of the disease prior to early August and, that recent rains following drought conditions in eastern North Carolina may be partially responsible for the presence of the disease.

The best way to protect your equine against EEE is to keep their vaccinations up-to-date.  Work with your veterinarian to be sure your horses are vaccinated annually.  In addition, measures to limit mosquito populations will help decrease spread of the disease.  It is also important that horse owners report to a veterinarian, any cases in which signs of EEE are observed.  While a few cases of the disease are reported in North Carolina annually, it is thought that many more cases go unreported.  Reporting any suspicious signs to your veterinarian may save other equine and possibly human lives.

Title blog dan description adalah yang seterusnya.

Happy blogging.:)

Cara Mengganti "Post a Comment" Blogger Dengan Teks Lain/Gambar

Mousse au Chocolat Orange - so lovely I just have to share...

Last night I had two of my oldest friends over to dinner which is always a relaxed and fun evening... Wanting to keep my workload down to a minimum so as not to take over my talking and drinking time, I tried to prepare as much in advance as I possibly could. So once again I found myself turning to the fabulous Supper Club recipe book by Ms Marmite Lover, Kerstin Rodgers.

Anyone who hasn't got this book yet then you really must add it to your cook's library - it's inspired and I do turn to it very regularly these days...

So dessert last night came from here and was Mousse au Chocolat Orange with Cointreau and Choc-dipped Physalis.
Here is the the book's version...

And here is mine using my Grandmother's beautiful old teacups which are truly love and have treasured for years...

I didn't use all orange-flavoured chocolate as I wanted it to be more chocolatey than orangey but I am sure with full-on orange flavour it would be absolutely delicious, and of course you can prepare it in advance and put it in the fridge...

For 4 people you will need- 150g orange-flavoured chocolate (good quality), 100g physalis fruit, 5 eggs with yolks and whites separated, 2 tbsp Cointreau.
Melt chocolate in a glass bowl over a saucepan of simmering water. Pull back the leaves on the physalis and dip them in the chocolate. Place on baking parchment to cool and harden.
Add the egg yolks one by one and mix gently then mix in the Cointreau.
Beat the egg whites in a separate bowl until they form stiff peaks. Fold them carefully into the melted chocolate and egg yolk mixture. Pour into ramekins (or tea-cups) and chill for at least 2 hours before serving with the physalis on the side.

Thank you Kerstin - another dessert triumph!
