Community Crisis: Offa and Erin-ile renew old communal clash



The age long conflict between Offa and Erin Ile community snowballed into a clash that saw more than ten people dead including a popular Hotelier in Offa.
Ten people from both communities were reported killed on Monday as the people used dangerous weapons like guns, machetes, knives, including charms in the ensuing break down in law and order in the ancient communities.
A reliable police source in Ilorin said that the hotelier who operates his hotel opposite the institution (Federal Polytechnic, Offa ) was beheaded while it was also reported that the hotel was set ablaze.


However, police have denied any casualty, just as unconfirmed sources said more than 10 people have been killed as at Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Kwara state police command in a statement signed by the PPRO DSP Fabode Olufemi and made available to newsmen on Thursday noted that “Three persons died in the incident and not ten as published by some media, several properties were destroyed during the incident.

  Erin-ile and Offa is in conflict because of a piece of land in possess of Offa community which Erin-ile  claim to be theirs......Meanwhile the people of Offa are not ready to let go this land.

Federal Polytechnic of Offa have closed down the Institution hereby suspending Academic activities till 11th of February 2013 because of the community violence to keep students and non-indigene safe.
